March 22 UPDATE: Just back from another stay in a one bedroom suite. The EDGE Designers had five floors blocked for their trade show so they were busy and we stayed on a different floor this time. The room was smaller than any I had previously seen (still big by NYC standards) and the bedroom was entirely interior with no windows which I got used to if I kept the door open. The tables were definitely scuffed and had seen better days, but it was all clean and in working order and they replaced several pieces from the room next door to us while we were there so they are refreshing rooms as needed. I still stand by this being a fabulous place to stay - without a doubt the best in this price point and even several above it. NOV 21 I am honestly shocked at the number of negative reviews for such a clearly fantastic gem. I’ve stayed in a LOT of hotels in NYC and worked professionally here in the industry in the past and have found the Stewart to be my new favorite for so many reasons. I’ve stayed in their one bedroom suites on three week-long trips now and they are enormous - bigger than many one bedroom apartments in the city for sure. They’ve all been quite clean, well stocked and maintained with housekeeping checking in to see that we were all set. The location is really central to everything and safe and secure. They kept lots of the old brick, moldings and the heavy real wood doors with what seems to be the original mirrors too! Kitchens are the only all new parts of the rooms I have stayed in which I appreciate. Again, I don’t know what sort of expectations many of these reviewers have had in their minds of NY &/or this hotel - but they sound unrealistic and like they’ll always find something to complain about (in the midst of a pandemic no less)!

We came for a concert at the Garden, and decided to stay at The Stewart because of the close proximity and the larger room size (family with 2 teenagers). We were very satisfied! The beds were extremely comfortable and the room was very clean. I was a bit hesitant to book this hotel at first because of some negative reviews. I am so happy I did not go by the reviews - our stay was fabulous! The only negative thing I can say is the carpet needs to be replaced in some areas. It wasn't dirty - just a little worn. It is a beautiful old building and the charm made up for the carpets. If you are traveling with a family or even a group of friends, this is a great place to stay. The suites offer much more room than you can imagine in a NYC hotel, and having a kitchenette was a bonus! When we come back again, The Stewart is where we will be staying.

We had a great stay. The location of this hotel is perfect, walking distance to most tourist attractions and penn station/ subway. The women who cleaned our room was brilliant .She would always make sure we were taken care of and kept our room clean. Whilst the hotel furnishings where dated, the room was clean and everything worked having the kitchen in our room was brilliant. The hotel clearly has a great history and a typical NYC hotel. All the staff where so helpful and sorted our transport back to the airport with no fuss. Thank You

First room was unprepared and shoddy. After a quick word, the manager upgraded us to the apartment suite, with panoramic balcony. Amazing views and location. Once everything was sorted out (much to our great satisfaction) we had a great stay. Staff were amazing and everyone involved were very amenable. Location is excellent and very central. We both would definitely book again on our next visit to New York. Please remember that New York is a very busy city with a lot of tourist foot traffic and her hotels are very well used, and, like any well loved thing, are subject to wear and tear, so you can't always expect the premises to be in absolute best condition.

I gave this hotel five stars for the price you pay and what you get. I mean, it was a two bedroom two bathroom apartment with a complete kitchenette really. The beds were nice and firm and everything worked fine. It was clean. The location was fantastic and the housekeeping staff were really nice. Unfortunately there was a fire above us (this was 2 years ago) and our apartment was completely drenched. They gave us a smaller temporary room. I hope they truly renovate this gem.

I stayed here with my son for his birthday. Staff and customer service was great. Reason for the 4 stars is hotel cleanliness it could be a little better. Rooms are great size. We had queen bed and sofa in our room, but I definitely wouldn't use that sofa to sleep on. (Can be dusted or vacuumed) to make it look more presentable. Other than that everything was great and yes I would stay there again.

Location is good but not best. You need around 15min walking to reach Times Square. The shower was nice. Everything looked clean; however, we have found shoes behind the sofa from the last guest in our room. It may tell us the cleaning staff does not clean everywhere in the room as expected. Hotel is good looking: outside, reception, corridors, elevators and rooms. Staff was friendly and we could leave our luggage stored in a room after check-out for some hours before leaving for the airport. The stay was expensive. However, compared to other hotels in the area that offer similar service, this one provided a good cost-benefit experience. Room was a little tight to support two full-size beds. Air conditioned was windowed old style and positioned too close to one of the beds. Who slept in that one needed to pass cold in order to provide good feeling to the other bed's people.

This hotel was really great, had lots of character and was at an unbeatable location. Door staff was extremely caring and kind, especially the doormen/bellhops. They helped us carry our luggage up and down the stairs since the escalator was down, and helped us with bag storage/bag claim. Front desk was charismatic and kind, but did fail to tell us about the total for the room hold charge (not a big deal). The lobby was outstanding, a modern green art couch greets you along with a large glass tube chandelier. The elevators are fixed in old world charm, with what I assume are original plates and sculpture on them. Nice place to hang out. They also have free short term locked baggage claim. We got a studio room, which was really lovely and spacious. We had a small view of street which was cool too. This area is very busy all the time, to complain about noise would be redundant, it's expected of the location. This location is a few blocks from Penn and is within a 10 minute walk to Time Square. Lots of 24/7 delis, lots of pubs and cocktail bars, lots of good eats. It's central Manhattan baby. Overall it was a good experience! I would definitely stay here again and I would definitely recommend it to people who are staying in the city for the first time if its in your budget, since it's so accessible to Penn and the Time Square area. It was the most affordable option for a "oops we missed our train and we need a last minute room"!
